Taki-ishi ( たきいし )

Taki-ishi ( たきいし ) in Japan

Taki-ishi is one of categories of Suiseki. Taki-sihi has line(s) of silica or lime which is reminiscent of waterfall in the stone. “Taki” means waterfall and “Ishi” means stone in Japanese. There are various types of waterfalls such as a thread waterfall, series of waterfall, or cascades. It can be said in general for any Suisekis, by viewing stone, enjoying seeing the whole world(in this case, seeing visual scene of waterfall) in a tiny stone. A lot of stones can intrusive silica or lime, however, it is a rare to find Taki-ishi. Appearing silica or lime on only one side surface is preferred. If appearing both side which means silica or lime is making the rounds of the stone, it is called as Fundoshi which is traditional Japanese men's underpants or hachimaki (headband) and they are not preferred.
